Ray Pfeiffer is the Tour Guide of choice for the American Embassy in Paris, whenever Congressional or White House VIP's visit Normandy:
Veterans with Ray and Cristy Pfeiffer and Rick Whiting of AAASignatours being greeted by President Bush and President Chirac on the 60th Anniversary of D-Day Commemorations at the Normandy American Cemetery
Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) being guided at Pointe du Hoc by Ray
Congressman John Murtha (D-PA)
at the airport in Caen, France after Ray guided his Congressional delegation tour on the Normandy Beaches
Ray and Cristy Pfeiffer with Congressman David Obey (D-WI) at the Normandy American Cemetery before Ray guided the Congressional delegation tour.
Joseph Hagin -President Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff and Ray at the "Iron Mike" Monument
Ray Pfeiffer will show you the landing beaches in Normandy, but he does far more than that. He uses the large battle maps in the Normandy American Cemetery to describe the various campaigns in Europe and the Pacific. You'll learn about the Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market-Garden and the conquest of Germany. Ray and Cristy were the only American tour operators to take Americans to Australia in 1992 to participate in the huge 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea commemorations. So Ray will describe not only that battle, but the Battle of Midway, the conquest of the Solomon Islands, the U.S. Navy's drive through the central Pacific and the liberation of the Philippines. He'll describe the bombing campaign against Japan, the China-Burma-India Campaign and the final battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
So when you spend a day or more with Ray, you'll not only experience the history of the Battle of Normandy, you'll learn the world-wide history of WWII from America's most experienced WWII tour guide.
Ray will be available again for private tours beginning in May 2007.
Contact our Normandy office by e-mail at ww2tour@aol.com to arrange for guided tours of the Normandy region for individuals and for small groups. A vehicle is available for up to 4 persons or we can visit in your own vehicle. We ask for a $100 non-refundable deposit and 500 Euros in Europe on the day of the tour. In addition, Ray is available as as "Step-On Guide" and will simply board your bus once you reach the Normandy region and guide you while you are there. One and two day itineraries can be designed for you which are flexible and your tour may begin in either Bayeux or Caen - pickup from your hotel or the train station may be arranged. Ray Pfeiffer is America's #1 expert on the Normandy region and he will personally guide you and answer your questions. Ray is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy's amphibious forces and understands the difficulties faced by our troops during the invasion. Arrangements may also be made to visit specific sites in Normandy - for instance to trace a particular veteran's or unit's route. Don't be fooled by services offered by some other companies - they are in fact no more than a driving service - with Ray you not only visit the beaches, but you experience them as well! If you are considering taking a standard day-trip tour from Paris by bus, please remember that it is four hours each way to drive from Paris to the invasion beaches, so you will be spending at least 8 hours just driving on the highway.
Once a deposit is received, Ray will be happy to research your loved one's history in Normandy and will design a personal itinerary and guide your party on the route of your family member's WWII unit. In such cases it will be helpful for you to supply him with as much detailed information on the unit to be researched such as 90th Infantry Division, 358th Infantry Regiment, Company I View the personal Tour itinerary
DAY TOUR TESTIMONIALS:
Ray and Cristy,
I toured Normandy with you last August and have written to you several times since regarding the benefits of my tour. I hope that you had the opportunity to read The Bedford Boys which I sent to your Florida research office.
Last week, I taught my lesson on D-Day to my students. This has always been a favorite lesson of mine, considering that I am a native of the Bedford area. I have always felt the need to let students in the Richmond area (where I teach) know what a great sacrifice Virginians and other Americans and Allied forces made that June 6.
This year however, my students responded so much more to my lesson. I had created a PowerPoint presentation full of information not found in books but learned on your tour. They were interested in the beaches and paratroopers, monuments and locals. How please they were to see tributes to Americans like Iron Mike and the plaque for the Rangers. They marveled at the difficulty of scaling Pointe du Hoc and the gratitude of the French owner of The Roosevelt Café.
The students have been so interested because I have seen the sites and had actual photographs to show them Having students thank me for individual lessons is rare: however, the lessons Ive taught based on my tours of Europe have resulted in numerous expressions of gratitude. One student even said, Mr. Trent, Im glad you got to go on that trip. What a great reward that is so rare for teachers.
I wanted to let you know what an impact my trip had on my students.
Sincerely,
Kevin Trent

Cristy and Ray,
Many thanks for arranging an excellent day for Hayes and me. It was exactly the type of tour I wanted to arrange for him (ok for me too) and I cant imagine having a tour any more helpful than Ray. I know youve heard it all before, but at the risk of repetition, the day with Ray truly brought that fateful day alive for us. I know that Ray was able to pass along the importance of D-Day to yet another generation that needs to recognize the sacrifice those young men made for all of us.
I think Hayes was overwhelmed with the scale and scope of the battles and all the questions that didnt come to mind that day have flooded back since we left the beaches. And within hours of returning to our house, he was enthralling friends with stories from the day at the beaches. As Ray said to him, he probably has enough information now to write term papers for the next several years at school. Again, I cant say thank you enough for arranging such a marvelous day. (Hayes enthralled his grandfather who came across Normandy in December 1944 as a replacement for the Bulge. Bill told Hayes that the next time he is in Atlanta, he will introduce us to a friend who was in the 101st on June 6th). Hayes cant wait!
Cristy, many thanks for the travel tips and scheduling. The ferry worked perfectly and our trip back to Charlotte was uneventful the best kind I think!
All the best, Terry Friddle
Cristy,
Thanks for the note. Ray was a delight, so friendly, gracious and knowledgeable. We all had a wonderful time in Normandy, wish we had more time to soak up the beautiful surroundings.
Ray gave us so much information; its difficult to remember all the names and places.

Dear Ray,
Thank you so much for guiding me and my parents around Normandy. I think that without you we would not have seen all the things we saw. I know for sure that I could not have even thought to look in the places your took us. One of my favorites was WN62 (German Resistance Nest 62), I had read a lot about it and really enjoyed actually seeing it. I also liked being on the shingle. I also am still reading D-Day and have just read about the Rangers at Pointe-du-Hoc (another of my favorite spots) and Omaha.
Well, Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Matt Critchlow
Dear Ray,
Although it has been a year, we still regard meeting you and our tour as the highlight of our trip to Europe. Cant tell you how many people we have told about the fantastic guide we had. Hopefully someday these friends will find out first hand.
How was the tour with the Band of Brothers following their journey from England to the Eagles Nest? It must have been extraordinary!
Our apologies for the long delay in sending these photos and our warmest and sincere thanks for most memorable time.
Sincerely,
George and Karen Baur
Ray & Cristy
Thank you for a wonderful day on Saturday. Susan, Myrtle, Jameson and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share in Ray's knowledge of the area and the events surrounding the landings. The experience has convinced Susan and I to come back soon when we can spend more time with you and get much more in depth on the subject.
I appreciate your patience with Jameson throughout the afternoon (when he was at his crankiest).
Again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Please let us know if you will be in London as we would love to get together over a pint or two.
Best regards,
Stephen
Jameson Gerson - age 7 months - our youngest tour member in 24 years! Jameson sits next to the time capsule which is found at the Normandy American Cemetery. Jameson will be here for the opening of the time capsule on June 6, 2044!
Ray and Cristy,
We would like to thank you very much for a wonderful tour. All of us thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, especially my Uncle Don. This was a dream come true for him. He has always wanted to tour the Normandy area and Ray more than fulfilled his dream. For me history was never my strong subject, but Ray brought everything into perspective and I haven't stop talking about it to my friends and co-workers.
We had no trouble getting back to Charles deGaulle Airport, well almost done. Ray gave us excellent directions, we just miss the exit to Roissy en France to find our Hotel. We had to make a U-turn.
Please keep us on your mailing list and maybe someday, we can return and take another of your historical tours.
Many thanks again.
Linda
Ray and Cristy
We just got back home. Our day with you in Normandy was the top highlight of our entire 17 days in Europe. I am so thrilled at our good fortune in being able to spend that day with you and benefit from your knowledge and experience. It surpassed our expectations and was an incredible exploration that our kids enjoyed as much as we did.
Thanks so very much for giving us such a marvelous adventure. Best of luck with your upcoming tours and with the new house.
Cordially,
Kathy Bassett
Dear Ray and Cristy,
Many thanks for all your effort during our recent trip to Normandy. Retracing my father's path between the D-Day landings and his death 7 weeks later was something that I've wanted to do for years. Having you to guide us in that journey was easily the wisest decision of the many we made planning the trip. By ourselves, in the relatively limited time available to us, we could never have covered the territory and learned what you were able to show and convey to us.
Your knowledge of the history of WW2 and particularly the Normandy campaigns is extremely impressive and fun to discuss for an old history buff like myself. Beyond the facts, though, your appreciation of and concern for the emotional aspects of our trip was thoughtful and very much appreciated. I was particularly touched by your special efforts to locate the specific battle area of my father's death.
You are both just plain fun to be around. Your enthusiasm for your work and upbeat personalities made each of our days with you a joy for both Melanie and me. Our visit to Normandy exceeded all of our expectations and you were a principle reason for this great experience. We look forward to staying in touch and possible future trips with you.
Best wishes,
Paul and Melanie Delima
PRIVATE TOURS OF THE INVASION BEACHES
OFFERED BY HISTORIC TOURS
HISTORIC TOURS is proud to offer private, personalized tours of the D-Day beaches and the Battle of Normandy guided by Ray Pfeiffer (President, Historic Tours, Inc.) Americas most experienced WWII tour guide. Ray does not just provide a driving service as other companies may; instead he makes the history come alive with his knowledge of the war and of beautiful Normandy. Ray is a Vietnam-era U.S. Navy veteran of the amphibious forces and he participated in many NATO amphibious landings in Europe. If you are considering other companies to guide you in Normandy, please understand that many of the French or British guides which these companies offer will simply bring you to the various sites such as Pointe du Hoc, stop in the parking lot and tell you that you have 15 or so minutes to explore these important sites on your own. Ray, however will actually walk the beaches, climb in the bunkers and explain the history to you. He will also make sure that you are satisfied with the length of time of your visit to a particular site, before moving on.
Ray can meet you and your party at your hotel, the train station in Bayeux (about 2 hours and 15 minutes from the Gare St.-Lazare in Paris) or at another pre-arranged meeting point.
Youll then go by van (or if you prefer, you may follow along in your vehicle) on a day-long tour of the beaches including the Normandy American Cemetery where Ray will walk with you and explain some of the most important sites such as the beautiful Wall of the Missing and he will relate the history of the European Theater of Operations and the Normandy Invasion while utilizing the giant maps in the Cemetery. In addition hell assist you in locating the graves of particular casualties of the battle, which you may wish to find (such as family members). Ray will also bring you to the graves of the sons of President Theodore Roosevelt and of the Niland brothers (about whom Saving Private Ryan was based). Youll continue with various stops along Omaha Beach (these sites are not even known by most tour guides) where Ray will explain the actions in detail. A good example is at the E3 Draw on Omaha Beach. In 1987, Historic Tours had the honor of designing and operating a tour for the 741st Tank Battalion, which lost so many of its men in the DD amphibious Sherman tanks here. Ray can relate the Battalions story here. He can take you to a German bunker on Omaha Beach where in 1993; Historic Tours coordinated a plaque to the 20th Engineer Combat Battalion. Youll walk on the beach at the different draws as Ray explains the details of the actions. Youll continue along to Pointe du Hoc where gallant American Rangers scaled the cliffs to battle the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. At all stops, youll have a chance to explore the various bunkers, hedgerows and fortifications.
A stop will be made for lunch before exploring Utah Beach and the Utah Beach Museum. The next stop will be Ste. Mere Eglise where Ray will relate the heroic efforts of the American airborne troops who fought here and in the surrounding areas. A visit will be made to the beautiful Iron Mike monument at la Fiere. A major engagement was fought there and the French people built this beautiful monument to honor their American liberators. If time allows, a stop will be made at the German Cemetery at la Cambe, before Ray drives you back to our hotel.
Ray also offers two and three private tours which may include the British and Canadian invasion beaches, Pegasus Bridge, General Pattons HQ in Nehou, Cherbourg, St. Lo, the Falaise Gap, Avranches and le Mont St. Michel. A boat ride along Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc may also be included for a small charge.
Please contact us via e-mail to arrange your tour.
Please note that tours with Ray are subject to Rays availability.
A $100 non-refundable deposit will confirm your reservation and the balance of 400 euros is to be paid on the day of the tour."

Historic Tours now associated with the
Omaha Beach Golf Club
and Hotel Mercure Omaha Beach!!
Historic Tours is proud to now be associated with the magnificent Omaha Beach Golf Club and the Hotel Mercure Omaha Beach!! Beginning in 2002, Historic Tours will also be offering day-trips for guests of the hotel. The Golf Club and Hotel Mercure are located on a former dairy farm on the far eastern end of Omaha Beach. In fact the link-up between the American 1st Infantry Divsion "The Big Red One" and British forces coming from Gold Beach occured on the site. In 2001 the 16th Infantry Regiment Association dedicated a large, beautiful plaque on the golf course to commemorate the liberation of the village of Huppain in which the course is located. There are three golf courses - "The Sea", "The Bocage" and "The Pond" and the course commemorates the liberation by having each of the holes named after an outstanding personality of the Battle of Normandy such as the General Eisenhower hole, the General Patton hole, etc. "The Sea" course overlooks the beautiful and historic fishing harbor of "Port-en-Bessin" (site of the storming of the casino by Free French commandos in the movie The Longest Day.) In addition German bunkers may still be found on this magnificent course. The Hotel Mercure Omaha Beach is located on the golf course and offers some of the finest rooms in the region, a swimming pool and gym.
